Aparna Sen was born in the year 1945. She  was the daughter of the  renowned film historian, film critic, and film maker, Chidananda Dasgupta. She began her film career as an actress in the film ‘Sampatti’ by Satyajit Ray. However, later she shifted towards film direction. Her first directorial debut was with a English “36, Chowringhee Lane”. It was highly acclaimed at the world stage and she received the Grand Prix at the Manila film festival. She also received  a national award for Best Director for the same.

 

Aparna Sen Directed many other films including Paroma in 1985, Sati in 1989, Yuganta in 1995, Paromitar Ek Din in 2000.

In the year 2003, she made her first Hindi-English Movie Mr&Mrs Iyer.

Aparna Sen who worked with Satyajit Ray as an actress was very closely associated with the later in many other ways. Like Ray, Aparna Sen also shows in all her films a final victory of the good and a restoration of basic values of life.
